Guardian Angels: Guides and Protectors

   Since the beginning of time, practically every spiritual tradition has recognized that there are Divine Beings that serve humanity by watching over us. We commonly call these Light Messengers Guardian Angels. In my subjective mystical experience, we each have a Guardian Angel that descends from Heaven as our personal guide and protector. The Saints and the Sages of the East and West teach that the body is the Temple of God and God dwells within the human heart.

    Lord Jesus stated this Eternal Truth Himself when He said that "the Kingdom of Heaven lies within" Luke 17:20 – 21 (King James Version). In fact, in the very center of each of our hearts, there lies a place of eternal refuge — a Holy Sanctuary called the Secret Garden — that is our deepest place of communion with God. The Secret Garden is also known as the Garden of Eden, which far from being a physical place, is a mystical paradise — the Heaven within the depths of our own Beingness.

    At the entrance of our Secret Garden, our Guardian Angel stands watchfully, nurturing and nourishing our Heart Space, having been emanated by the Heart Itself as its Caretaker. Our Guardian Angel is the personal form of the protective aspect of our Love Nature. Our Guardian Angel is unique and special to each of us and often acts as an Intercessor with the God of our Hearts — most particularly in the case of small children, for our Heart Space is so vast — like a Boundless Ocean of Love and Mercy, that when we first encounter it, it sometimes seems as if we might be engulfed and forever lost beneath its surface.

    Our Guardian Angel, in the role as Intercessor, serves to comfort and ensure us that All Is Well and to trust in the Unseen Forces that guide our evolution. In the Christian scriptures, Lord Jesus Himself refers to the role of Guardian Angels as a protector of and Intercessor for children when he states, “Take heed that ye despise not one of the little ones; for I say unto you, that in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 18:10 (King James Version)

    Our Guardian Angel’s mission is to watch over us and to gently lead and place us into profound connection with the God Within, providing loving personal guidance, insight, and direction. Encounters with our Guardian Angels are magical and filled with the beauty and awe-inspiring majesty of Unconditional Love. Our Guardian Angels are always available to assist us with the deepest and most pressing needs of our hearts. It is for this reason that human beings often first become aware of their Guardian Angels during times of extreme stress and crisis. Our Guardian Angels frequently manifest themselves visibly to us during such times to remind us of our connection to our Higher Power and that Love Conquers All.

    We do not have to wait until a time of distress, however, to develop a connection with our Guardian Angel. We each have the ability to cultivate a loving relationship with our Guardian Angel at any time. The more we seek to connect with our Guardian Angel, the more we will become aware of our Guardian Angel’s presence and the stronger our love for our Guardian becomes. Like any relationship, our relationship with our Guardian Angel requires our own love and attention to cause it to bloom, blossom, and grow. Over time, we can develop a close personal relationship with our Guardian Angel, as Great Love is given and Great Love is received, our Guardian Angel will go to extreme lengths to ensure that our evolution occurs with ease and grace.

   A simple way that we can begin to nurture the relationship with our Guardian Angel is by regularly offering a prayer of gratitude:

“Blessed Guardian Angel of God, my Holy Guardian and Protector of Body and Soul, thank you most Beautiful One, for your Radiant Light — like the light of 5,000 suns shining at the same time without blinding. Your presence is truly sublime. To you I offer my love and gratitude. Thank you for watching over me day and night. Thank you for loving me, guiding me and walking beside me. Thank you for being my ever present reminder of the Indwelling Flame of God within my Heart. Thank you for creating a space for me in your life, Beloved God. May my gratitude walk with you wherever you go!” 

     When we offer prayers of gratitude to our Guardian Angel, we acknowledge our Guardian’s profound contribution to our lives, simply saying,

    “I see you. I acknowledge you. Thank you for the blessing of your Light. I am forever greater having been touched by the Power of your Love.”

    After offering prayers of gratitude, close your eyes for several minutes in meditation. When you do so regularly, you will begin to feel the presence of your Guardian Angel energetically. In due course, your Guardian Angel will bring to manifest herself or himself to you in visions or perhaps even physically. Your relationship with your Guardian Angel will eventually become an enduring bond that will last throughout Eternity and beyond.
