GatherInsight Messenger:
Ja-lene Clark and Jo Ann Deck
In 2009 Ja-lene Clark and Jo Ann Deck formed a partnership to create Gather Insight. The wisdom from the Gather Insight founders is unique. Both of these industry professionals have vast experience from diverse perspectives, as:
1. Publishers 2. Sales and marketing directors 3. Agents.
To date these women have published hundreds of books from new-thought leaders including Don Miguel Ruiz, Dr. Jeffery Mishlove, Dr. Masau Emoto, Jerry Jampolsky, Cindy Dale, Diane Stein, Tolly Burkan, Scout Cloud Lee, Starr Fuentes, Rev. Kimberly Marooney, Ph.D, and have worked with new authors such as Suzanne Shurlock-Durana, (New World Library 2010) and Padma Aon Prakasha (Inner Traditions 2009, North Atlantic Press and Random House 2010).
Activated by a vision grounded through four decades of shared experience, Ja-lene and Jo Ann created GatherInsight.com, a non-traditional online publishing community to provide tools to spiritual teachers for expanding their audience, including cost-effective options to publish beautifully crafted books. Since launching on June 22, 2009, Gather Insight has published 14 books and has produced numerous free events in the Gathering Place that have been enjoyed by visitors from 105 countries.
Ja-lene Clark has an extensive background in traditional publishing and to date has produced over 140 titles. At Council Oak Books Ja-lene was responsible for operations and the direction of new book projects through even the most subtle processes of publishing and into the market place—from acquisitions of manuscripts and other publishers, editorial, art direction, package concept, marketing and as well as ancillary development of series and/or sideline concepts. She wrote marketing materials, including catalogs and jacket copy, to position titles for distribution and release into the trade and other special markets. She managed a sales force of sixty-five independent reps in the gift and trade market, sought and closed special sales deals, wrote budgets and directed the financial operations of the company. Ja-lene also developed a stable of freelance experts including: artists, editors, researchers, designers and indexers. She sold rights, managed an inventory of three hundred backlist titles, and directed publicity and advertising campaigns. In 2006 Ja-lene left her post as associate publisher of Council Oak Books to follow her personal vision of empowering authors and media makers with her guidance. Utilizing her wealth of experience she served clients as collaborator to facilitate the development of book concepts, editing, packaging, production, marketing and distribution of multimedia content through the use of new emerging technologies, traditional outlets and alternative resources. From 2006-2008 Ja-lene has successfully completed 16 book projects.
With more than twenty years in sales and acquisitions at Ten Speed Press, one of the country's finest independent publishers sold in 2009 to Random House, Jo Ann Deck brings a unique perspective to the world of books. She has bought and sold cookbooks, health books, metaphysical books, self-help and career books and gift and humor books. She has presented and sold books at over 100 conventions focused on special markets and has attended more than twenty five of the last twenty six annual book trade conventions sponsored by the American Book Association (ABA) and Book Expo America (BEA). From the glory days of a vibrant book business in the 1980s and early 1990s to the struggles of today, Jo Ann Deck has helped authors sell more books and reach a wider audience with their works.
In addition to their unique publishing program, Ja-lene and Jo Ann specialize in educating those authors with a mission to inspire about traditional publishing through online classes and private sessions.
