Ja-lene Clark:
Subjective Lyrics

Do we all hear the same words in a song?

I respect the amount of creative brilliance that it takes to make memorable commercials. I work in the spiritual realms and that tends to be a bit serious, so every once and a while I daydream about other jobs…like what great fun it would be to make commercials. I imagine that working with a team to ponder turning silly, funny, inspiring, creative or even hokey ideas into 30-second clips that people remember could be great fun.

I really like the new Volkswagen commercials. Not sure who the creative minds are that created this series, but I really enjoy these commercials. I have chuckled over one called The Force that shows a little kid dressed as Darth Vader who thinks he has magical powers. His powers are confirmed when he zaps the car and it magically starts. (watch here)

Now a new commercial was just released with people singing Elton John’s song Rocket Man and butchering the lyrics—except of course, the smart guy who is driving a new Volkswagen—he gets it right. (watch here)

I find it fascinating that when lyrics, melodies, instruments and emotions mix we can find ourselves actually hearing or remembering completely different lyrics. Music triggers something...not sure what it is, but I know that it does. beatles_312342726.jpg

Last week Munishwarji posted a powerful article Occupy Wall Street: Humanity Calls for Evolution not Revolution. After posting that article, a different kind of "beetle" came...the Beatles song Revolution 1 was playing non-stop in my mind.  I couldn’t get that song out of my head. I had a bit of an internal struggle because I knew the name of the song was revolution and that didn’t feel like it was in alignment with evolution.

I couldn’t resist the pull and went to my playlist to hear Revolution 1 and this time I heard the song with new ears. I was amazed because of extraordinary synchronicities between the lyrics and how these words linked to all that is occurring now. The Beatles were completely on target. The song is Revolution 1, however it links to Evolution.

Maybe the Beatles were just entertainers, maybe they were the voices of a time speaking from the collective minds of the people, or just maybe they were tapped into what is most assuredly to come.

Read the lyrics to Revolution 1 below, then turn up the speakers on your computer and listen as if you are hearing this song for the very first time.

Revolution 1
Lennon/ McCartney

You say you want a revolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know that you can count me out

Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right

You say you got a real solution
Well, you know
We'd all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
Well, you know
We're doing what we can
But when you want money
for people with minds that hate
All I can tell is brother you have to wait

Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right
Ah

ah, ah, ah, ah, ah...

You say you'll change the constitution
Well, you know
We all want to change your head
You tell me it's the institution
Well, you know
You better free you mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao
You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right
all right, all right, all right
all right, all right, all right
