The Power of Gratitude
In the darkest moments, your angel is shining God’s light on your suffering. To feel the love that your angel is holding you in, have gratitude. When you experience heartfelt gratitude, you are in the embrace of your soul.
No matter how challenging the situation, you can always find at least one thing to be grateful for. Then find something else, and something else. Feeling gratitude opens you to be more receptive.
Change your focus during difficult times by journaling about your gratitude. If you have a home to live in and food to eat, find gratitude that your basic needs are being met. Have gratitude for the people who care about you. Search for gratitude for the challenges you are facing as gratitude will help you find the gifts being offered.
To return your focus to gratitude frequently during a busy day, write the things you are grateful for on an index card in the morning and carry the card with you. Once every hour, take a minute to read the card and feel gratitude.
One of Saint Therese’s biggest gifts to us is the gratitude and devotion she found in the little things of every day. Saint Therese’s poor health left her able to perform only the simplest of tasks in Carmelite life. She turned each small task she did into a gift of loving devotion. “You know well enough that Our Lord does not look so much at the greatness of our actions, nor even at their difficulty, but at the love with which we do them,” she said.
Rest in the Embrace of Your Guardian Angel
Invite your angel to hold you in the healing presence of spirit when you are ill. Saint Therese showed us that, even during serious illness, it is possible to attend to the smallest details with loving devotion.
Resting peacefully helps to promote healing. What is disturbing you? Are you worried or anxious that you should be doing something else? Find a solution for the situation. That may be as simple as asking someone else to do that for you. Perhaps someone you work with can take over your projects. Or maybe your mother-in-law can care for your children.
If at all possible, set it up so you can rest without being expected to do anything else. It is easier to relax when the environment is clean, simple, and beautiful, with everything you need at your fingertips.
The biggest gift of illness is time for prayer and communion with your guardian angel. Let this communion be the natural expression of how you are feeling. Cry out your frustrations when you don’t understand what is happening to your body. Talk through what needs to be done and ask for help. And rest in the comfort and peace of sweet love in your angel’s embrace.
