The Angel of Vulnerability answers when your soul calls for help in opening your heart to unconditional love. An open, vulnerable heart feels everything—the agony of life along with the ecstasy of love. Compassion is born in a vulnerable heart because you feel the pain and suffering of others from a personal perspective. Each time you face the pain of an open heart, you gain strength.

Your soul yearns for vulnerability because of the fulfillment that results from tenderness and a willingness to feel. The only shield for an open heart is love. In love, even the most painful feelings shared with others become exquisite.

The greatest gift of the Angel of Vulnerability is to guide you to a depth of openness where you can feel the longing of your soul. In a vulnerable state, this longing to connect with the eternal source that is the soul’s home can seem devastating. But the feeling of longing and the vulnerability that comes with it open the door for you to connect with the source of unconditional love, nurturing, and satisfying your soul.

At any moment, you have the opportunity to choose between truth and illusion. An illusion is a thought, feeling, or behavior that takes you away from love. It is an illusion because your soul, the truest part of you, is pure love.

The illusory self fears vulnerability and perceives it as a weakness, seeking ways to protect or defend the heart from feeling. The outcome of these defense strategies is hardness of heart, arrogance and fear. Is something happening in your life that is causing you to feel vulnerable? Which way are you going with it? Are you allowing yourself to feel the pain of love? Or are you finding ways to protect your heart from feeling pain? The greatest drawback to setting up defense strategies is that they diminish all of your feelings.

As a child, you were wide open and vulnerable to emotional wounds inflicted by others. The defensive strategies you have now are the result of being hurt by someone when you were vulnerable. How do you, in turn, unintentionally impose needless suffering on others? Do you speak thoughtlessly? Do you have a sarcastic or contradictory attitude? Are you judgmental or critical of others? These are defensive strategies. How do these habits harm you?

How can you use the awareness you have gained during your lifetime to develop discernment rather than defensiveness? Ask the Angel of Vulnerability to help you identify your defensive strategies and find actions you can take to counter them and change. Contemplate the questions and points in this section to increase you awareness of how your defensive strategies affect others.
